Bella Baxter (Poor Things; Emma Stone)

Description

Bella is a 25-year-old woman in Victorian London who was brought back to life by surgeon Godwin "God" Baxter. Baxter reanimated a pregnant woman's corpse with the brain of her unborn baby. Bella's mental age develops rapidly from 2 to 20, while her body remains that of a 30-year-old. She travels around Europe and Egypt, experiencing new things and developing her intellect. Bella is initially childlike, unruly, and lustful. She learns to be a "proper" human and stand against social injustice. Emma Stone described Bella as her most difficult character to date, but also said she became obsessed with her and viewed her as the simplest character she's ever played. Poor Things is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and written by Tony McNamara. It's based on the 1992 novel of the same name by Alasdair Gray.
