They are entities that resemble humans, thus the name "Mimics" means they can replicate the humans' behavior and have the same or even superior intelligence as them. The Mimics are neutral entities; they can either be hostile or friendly or in-between depending on their nature and personalities, just like humans or any civilized entities such as adult facelings. There are so many cases of the Mimics that are replicating humans and other common entities in hybrid form, the only Mimics currently in the game are Phoebe, Halliel, Hotaru, Towa, Ophelia, Neeko and Harper. According to the wanderers, these entities mentioned aren't hostile but can't be trusted, be careful if you encounter any of them.
