Tom's main flaw is that he isn't he sharpest knife in the drawer, a reputation that he is painfully aware of. He often has to resort to asking others, like Rochelle for help with his school work, to the point of asking them to hep him cheat and isn't above bribing them into coercion. Despite this, he is a more-or-less decent guy, like showing politeness to Vanessa when she confronts him for asking her daughter to help him cheat. He also has a decent friendship with Taylor.
